A few words and general comments about outsourcing

I am positive that a lot of of you have thought at least once a few times about outsourcing. Could you introduce that in the firm? What are the advantages?Outsourcing allows to transfer some activities to a third party with the result that that the firm can concentrate on the core business. Below is a very plain example that will help to explain how it functions: company that operates in the area of event management and conferences does not need to have the IT department. IT outsourcing company would not only be sufficient, but possibly even preferred in such situation. The major target is cost reduction – that is cheaper to outsource IT proffesionals, than to keep the IT department in the company. Nonetheless, we should keep in mind that this is a very streamlined example.

The huge majority of the drawbacks and risks resulting from outsourcing are correlated with poor choice of third party. Doubtless, the amount of gains of outsourcing exceeds the number of deficiences. First of all, outsourcing can lower labor costs. The relevant aspect is if the enterprise uses the services of the firm based in the same country or abroad. That is especially trendy in the IT sector – many recognized companies possess “their” IT departments outsourced and based in India, where there are plenty of educated people but low-priced cost labor at the same time. Secondly, outsourcing allows you to spotlight the key processess of your company. For instance, if the creation of recent software is outsourced, we can pay attention to key areas, for instance acquiring new costumers.

There are also a lot of minor profits such as possessing an access to a group of professionals that we could not afford to hire otherwise as our employee. At the same time, this allows to develop the quality of services.

Eventually it is worth noting that the word “outsourcing” has become an umbrella term. Not everything which is transferred to a third party can be considered as outsourced. For example – service called “managed services”.

Although it can be often perceived as some kind of outsourcing, this term emphasises business purpose, that goes far beyond the cost savings. Hence, it is worth to remember, that even though outsourcing is a very broad concept, not everything could be part of that “category”.
